“Nigeria’s president is the most powerful president in the world” – Dino Melaye
Former Kogi State senator and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has argued that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wields excessive powers, calling for changes to the country’s political system.
Melaye made the comment while discussing what he described as the concentration of political and institutional powers in the office of the President.

According to him, the President has significant influence over appointments to several key positions, including the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Inspector-General of Police and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He also listed the military service chiefs and oil blocks among the areas he believes demonstrate the extent of presidential power.
“President of Nigeria is the most powerful president in the world and that must change. If we want to move forward, it must change. Why do I say he’s the most powerful president in the world? He decides who will be INEC chairman.
Today he decides who gets oil well, oil block. He decides who will be IG of police. He decides who will be Central Bank governor.
He decides who will be Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff. There’s no president in the world that has such powers, who can decide to say, ‘You, I give you oil block,’ and that minute you become a trillionaire,” Melaye remarked.
