“My parents slept in separate rooms for 39 years” – Man shares unusual family story

A man has gone viral on social media after sharing an unusual story about his parents’ marriage and how they maintained a long-lasting relationship while sleeping in separate rooms.

The story was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Ade Dohyeen, where he revealed what his father told him about their marriage arrangement.

Parents’ Unusual Sleeping Arrangement

According to him, his parents have slept in separate rooms throughout his childhood. He revealed that he once asked his father why they never shared the same bed.

 “It Was a Mutual Decision”

He explained that his father said the decision was made early in the marriage after both partners realized they had different sleeping habits.

Rather than see it as a problem, he said they discussed it openly and agreed on the arrangement during what he described as a “business-like” conversation.

Better Sleep, Stronger Marriage

He added that his father told him their first night apart was surprisingly peaceful, with both of them sleeping better than before.

In his words: “My parents slept in separate rooms my whole childhood. I asked my dad about it once. He said they made a deal early because my mum snores and he tosses. He said they sat down one evening and talked it through like a business meeting. His words. He said the first night apart they both slept like babies. He said they were happier than they had ever been. He never told people. Because when he said separate rooms they said oh I’m sorry. He said he was never sorry. He was just tired of explaining that love does not have to mean sharing a blanket. They are still married 39 years later.”
