“Their problem is that the son of a nobody was invited” – VDM fires back at Femi Falana over NBA conference criticism

Social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has reacted to comments made by human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, regarding his invitation to speak at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference.

Earlier, Falana had questioned the decision to feature VDM as a panelist during a discussion on insecurity, arguing that people invited to speak on national security should have experience in the country’s security architecture.

Reacting in a video shared on his social media page, VDM said he was disappointed by Falana’s position, particularly his comment about bringing “somebody from nowhere” to the conference.

According to VDM, the remark made him understand why some lawyers and members of the elite opposed his participation, alleging that the issue was largely about class.

He also rejected the argument that discussions about insecurity should be restricted to people with formal expertise, insisting that ordinary Nigerians have experiences worth sharing.

In his words in parts, he said:

“I listened to Femi Falana, and I’m not going to lie to you, I was so disappointed in the great Femi Falana. I was really, really disappointed. Their problem is that the son of a nobody was invited. That is simply what has been going on in the media, and Femi Falana just made it clear to me.

“This is not about books. It’s about experience. And when you want to talk about security, security is for everybody. I spoke on behalf of the poor masses. I spoke on behalf of the poor people. I spoke on behalf of the people that don’t have a voice.

“When people want justice, who do they call? They call VeryDarkMan. Are you not ashamed?”

VDM maintained that his contribution was based on his experiences and his desire to represent ordinary Nigerians affected by insecurity.
