“No be this type of toxic family dey make person dey do hookup” – Lady cries out

A Nigerian lady has opened up on the emotional toll of growing up in what she described as a toxic family, saying people often fail to understand the experiences of those who come from troubled homes.
In a video shared online, the lady criticised people who assume that everyone has a loving and supportive family simply because they had positive experiences with their own parents.

‘Nobody Talks About How Traumatic It Is’
The lady said living in a toxic family can be deeply traumatising, adding that people who come from good homes should not dismiss the experiences of others.
“So, nobody talks about how traumatising it is to be in a toxic family. Nobody talks about it. Now if person come outside to talk una go dey do good children, ehn my daddy is this, shut the f**k up,” she said.
She urged people with supportive parents to understand that others may have gone through completely different experiences at home.
“Please, shut the f**k up because say your papa good, no be say other people papa good,” she added.
‘You Being on Your Own, Being Threatened’
The lady went on to describe some of the experiences she said she had faced, including being threatened and allegedly chased out of the house.
“Imagine you being on your own, being threatened, I will just chase you out,” she said.
She also linked toxic family environments to some young people’s decisions to engage in questionable means of survival, saying some children may turn to prostitution because of what they experience at home.
“No be this type of toxic family dey make children dey do hookup,” she stated.
‘I Decided to Work’
According to the lady, she had chosen to work and fend for herself, but claimed that she still faced hostility from members of her family.
“Okay, I decided to work. You are still after my life,” she said.
She further recounted an alleged confrontation during which she was beaten and accused of refusing to meet a family member at a particular location.
“You kor even if they beat me, dey talk, say, you call me, I no come meet you for where you dey,” she said.
The lady also alleged that the confrontation escalated after she was instructed to kneel down.
“Hin kor start to dey… hin first tell me make I go kneel down. I never even waka reach where I talk say make I kneel down. You kor start to dey slap me based on say you don mean me,” she recounted.
