Harry Maguire backs Rashford to become key asset for Man United
Harry Maguire believes Marcus Rashford can play a major role for Manchester United after making his first Premier League start for the club in almost two years.
Rashford impressed in United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, providing one of the main attacking outlets as Michael Carrick’s side secured their first league win of the season.

The England international’s future at United had been uncertain after loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona, but he now appears set to remain at the club beyond Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Maguire demands hunger from Rashford
Maguire believes Rashford’s attitude and determination will be crucial if he is to rebuild his career at his boyhood club.
“He’s a great talent,” Maguire said. “He’s always a threat.
“If Marcus wants to be here, wants to work, wants to improve and help the team, of course we’re willing to have him in the team.”
The defender also acknowledged that Rashford can still improve but insisted the forward remains a valuable player for United.
“He could still do a lot more and I think he’ll say he can do more but if we keep him fit, we keep him happy, he keeps driven and hungry, he’s a great asset to have.”
Rashford’s return comes after a difficult period at Old Trafford, during which questions were repeatedly raised over his form, commitment and relationship with the club.
United hope Rashford can rebuild
The 28-year-old appeared to benefit from his time away, working under Unai Emery at Aston Villa and Hansi Flick at Barcelona.
Maguire believes Rashford should not be judged solely on his recent struggles, pointing to the wider difficulties United have experienced in recent seasons.
“You’ve got to remember Marcus has had a wonderful career for this club,” he said.
“But when you play at this club for numerous years, there’s going to be bad seasons, and when the bad seasons come everyone piles on you.”
Carrick has described Rashford as being like a new signing, while his familiarity with the forward could help him rediscover his best form.
“He’s come back in, really fit and sharp and we’re excited to have him,” Maguire added.
Rashford now has the opportunity to establish himself again as an important part of United’s plans under Carrick.
