2027: “If Peter Obi leaves ADC, he’s working for Tinubu” – Kenneth Okonkwo

Veteran Nollywood actor, lawyer, and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has said that any attempt by former presidential candidate Peter Obi to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would raise serious questions about his political intentions.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo reacted to speculation that Obi might exit the party if he fails to secure its presidential ticket, stressing that such a move would be viewed negatively within the ongoing opposition coalition discussions.
“If he leaves, will he now be a mobile squadron? Anybody… that leaves ADC for another party is a mobile squatter,” he said, suggesting that switching platforms at this stage of coalition building would undermine credibility.
Okonkwo further argued that any aspirant who exits the party amid internal negotiations would be seen as politically compromised.
He added that leaving the coalition could be interpreted as indirectly favouring President Bola Tinubu, especially at a time when opposition leaders are trying to maintain unity ahead of future elections.
“Anybody that goes out of the coalition is compromised and is working for Tinubu, whoever that person is,” he said.
The ADC has recently been part of wider opposition realignment talks involving several major political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister Chibuike Amaechi, all of whom are reportedly interested in the party’s presidential ticket or coalition arrangement.
While Obi remains a key contender for the ADC ticket, Atiku has previously stated that he would support whoever emerges through consensus or primaries.
