Woman arrests her 50-year-old son for stealing money from her bag

A 74-year-old South African woman has taken legal action against her 50-year-old son, accusing him of stealing money from her bag.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 6th, around 11 am, prompting the distressed mother to report the matter to the Daveyton police station.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

The elderly complainant alleges that, while she and her son were relaxing at home, she briefly left the room to go to the bathroom.

Upon her return, she discovered that an undisclosed amount of money was missing from her handbag, and her son was nowhere to be found.

“The 74-year-old female complainant alleges that on December 6, at 11 am, while she and her naughty son, the suspect, were relaxing at home, she quickly went to the bathroom. The mother left behind a handbag containing an undisclosed amount of money

“When she (the mother) came back, the son was nowhere to be found. Money was missing from the handbag. The mother said she is sure that the money was stolen by her son,” Lieutenant Colonel Thepa said.

The distressed mother firmly believes that her son is responsible for the theft, stating that she confronted him about the missing funds, but he denied any involvement.

Adding to the allegations, the elderly woman claimed that the same son had stolen a memory card from her mobile phone and a two-plate stove in the preceding week.

“The sick and tired parent registered a case of theft and the perpetrator was arrested and taken to the Daveyton police station. The detained suspect is expected to appear at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon, the police spokesperson added.
