“Wherever I go, I’ll look for a brothel and sleep with prostitutes until I contract HIV” — Man reveals
A man has shared his experience of living with HIV, revealing that years of risky sexual behaviour preceded his diagnosis.
Speaking during a podcast, the man said he has been living with HIV for nine years.
He admitted that before discovering his status, he frequently sought casual sexual encounters and rarely considered the health risks involved.
Man opens up about lifestyle before HIV diagnosis
Describing his past behaviour, he said, “I’m HIV positive and I’ve been living with HIV for nine years.”
He added, “I was the kind of guy that if I go to any state for the first time, the first thing I want to ask is the closest brothel. I just wanted to sleep with anybody.”
The man also spoke about struggling with compulsive sexual behaviour, claiming it affected different aspects of his life.
He said, “Wherever I find myself, I could masturbate. I mean even inside the church.”
According to him, he would sometimes become sexually aroused during church services and excuse himself to the restroom.
He further alleged that some older members of a church introduced him to a nightclub after an all-night programme during his teenage years.
Says few sex workers insisted on protection
During the interview, the podcast host asked whether any sex worker had ever refused to have sex without a condom.
Responding, the man said, “Very few.”
Explaining why, he added, “The power of demanding for protection as a woman is usually lost when you are paid for intimacy.”
The man displayed his antiretroviral medication during the interview and said he only decided to get tested after suffering persistent health problems.
“I was experiencing a series of symptoms before I checked. I was experiencing diarrhoea and fever,” he said.
He also stressed that HIV cannot be identified by appearance alone, recalling the case of a married woman who tested positive during a routine medical check-up while her husband reportedly did not know her status.
