“How stingy can you be?” – Lady blasts landlord after building over soakaway collapses, destroys tenants’ belongings

A Nigerian lady has narrated how part of a building allegedly collapsed after it was constructed over a soakaway, destroying tenants’ belongings.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady recounted hearing a strange sound around 1am while she was still awake. She initially thought it was a cat before hearing her neighbour calling people to come outside.

In her words, she said:

“Around one while I was still awake at midnight, I heard a sound. I thought it was a cat, maybe our neighbour’s cat was playing around. I then heard my neighbour calling out, ‘Guys, come outside!’”

She explained that she woke up the following morning to find people gathered around the house after the structure had collapsed.

According to her, the affected portion had been built over a soakaway, causing it to collapse and sending tenants’ properties, including expensive phones, into the pit.

“Now them call landlord say, ‘Oya, come oo.’ Landlord say him faint. Why you go faint? When you increased the rent, did you faint? Expensive phones, everything inside the soakaway.

How stingy can you be as a landlord? You wanted to build something like that, you didn’t use rod, nothing, nothing,” she added.

The incident has drawn reactions online, with people discussing the alleged construction and the safety of the building.

The lady concluded by expressing frustration with landlords, insisting that the situation should serve as a warning to others.
