What Sevilla coach said after Adam’s stoppage time winner against Espanyol

Akor Adams received special praise from Luis García Plaza after his dramatic late winner secured Sevilla a 2-1 comeback victory over Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday.
The Nigerian striker came off the bench to score deep into stoppage time at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, helping Sevilla move further clear of the relegation zone with only three matches left this season.
García Plaza praises team spirit after comeback
The Sevilla coach admitted emotions took over after Adams completed the turnaround late in the game.
“I really celebrated Akor’s goal. I’ve only been here six games, but I really empathize with the team,” García Plaza said in comments published on Sevilla’s official website.
He also highlighted the unity within the squad during the decisive moment.

“The bench came out to celebrate, and that’s very important. You can’t stop believing. It was a testament to that,” he added.
Adams continues strong Sevilla form
Adams has now recorded nine goals and three assists in 29 La Liga appearances this season.
The striker has also played a major role in Sevilla’s recent improvement, with the club winning back-to-back league matches for the first time since October 2025.
Espanyol initially looked set to leave with all three points after Tyrhys Dolan fired the visitors ahead in the second half following poor defending from Sevilla.
However, the hosts responded strongly late on, grabbing an equaliser before Adams curled home the winner in stoppage time.
Sevilla edge closer to survival
The victory lifted Sevilla from 17th to 12th in the La Liga standings on 40 points, moving them above Espanyol in the table.
With fixtures against Villarreal CF, Real Madrid and RC Celta de Vigo still to come, Sevilla are now closing in on retaining their top-flight status for another season.
