UNIZIK Upgrades Mbaukwu Pre-Science Centre To Mini Campus

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, made history on Thursday 28, May 2026, when its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, announced plans to convert the University Pre-Science Centre, located in the Mbaukwu community of the Awka South Local Government Area, into a mini-campus structure with associated facility upgrades and increased student enrollment.
The Vice Chancellor revealed this during a courtesy call to the community’s traditional ruler, Igwe Peter Anugwu, at his palace.
Prof. Anyaehie also revealed that fresh intakes for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) will begin their programmes at the Mbaukwu study centre in September of this year, increasing the number of students at the centre by more than 2000..
He praised Mbaukwu as a great community with a great Traditional Ruler, saying that work on that front had already begun in the study centre.
Anyaehie advocated for greater partnership and collaboration between the university and community members in areas such as hostel development, security, and other services, noting that with the latest developments in place, the Mbaukwu community will be recognized as an educational center and mini campus of the great Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Responding, the traditional ruler, Igwe Peter Anugwu, who was overjoyed at the good news, expressed deep gratitude for the event.
He stated that seeing the Mbaukwu campus constructed to the highest worldwide standards will be his greatest lifetime ambition, which he eagerly awaits after witnessing it all in his 51 years on the throne and counting.
He prayed against any evil force that may undermine such a lofty plan of action, promising that the community is always prepared to protect the legacies and prospects of the institution based in Mbaukwu.
In another development, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) in Haryana, India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote teaching, learning, research, and development.
The MOU signing ceremony, which was broadcast live online in real-time, was a significant step toward promoting worldwide academic excellence, research collaboration, and cultural exchange. The collaboration includes a variety of cooperative events, exchange programs, educational resource sharing, and partnerships.
Speaking at the online event, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Bond Anyaehie, Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, emphasized the institution’s enormous potential based on existing statistics.
He was optimistic that the relationship with Chaudhary University in India would further encourage growth and staff development.
Prof. Vijay Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Chaudhary Devi Lal University, provided a brief history of the institution, which he stated was named after a former Deputy Prime Minister of India.
He expressed his delight at the coincidence that both universities were named after statesmen who served their people honorably.
He stated that the relationship with UNIZIK has enormous potential and promised to support the partnership for the mutual benefit of both schools.
The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Charles Nwadigwe, Director of International Collaboration and Linkages at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and Prof. Anu Shukla, Dean of International Relations and Foreign Affairs at Chaudhary Devi Lal University.
During the online ceremony, both Vice Chancellors signed their personal copies of the MOU live, as other staff members watched and applauded.
The ceremony was also witnessed by Dr. Mirian Alike of the Philosophy Department, who had offered communication support during the collaborative negotiations.
