“They’ve all divorced their nurse wives” – Canada-based Nigerian doctor recalls how friends mocked his marriage 22 years ago

A Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Zo, has recalled how some of his friends mocked his decision to marry his school girlfriend 22 years ago, claiming he had made a mistake by settling down before moving abroad.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the doctor revealed that he had just gotten married and his wife was pregnant when he first travelled to the United States. He said some friends advised him to marry a nurse in America because of stabily and financial benefits.

In his words, he said:
“Some of my friends I met there were like, ‘Why did you get married? You could have come over here so we can arrange a nurse for you. You already made a mistake.’
I got married to my school girlfriend then, and they made me feel bad about my choice. Although I thought about it, but my wife is my wife.
Fast forward to last week, I called to check up on their families, asking about their madams. They started giving stories, and they all got married to a nurse in America. They’ve all divorced the nurse wives they married.
Me that I look like I made a mistake 22 years ago, now am the one celebrating my 23 years anniversary next month.”
The revelation has drawn attention online, with many praising him for remaining committed to his marriage despite the pressure and advice from his friends.
His story has also prompted discussions about the importance of making personal decisions based on one’s convictions rather than comparing one’s life to others.
For Zo, what his friends once considered a mistake has now become a marriage of more than two decades.
