Roy Keane praises “fantastic” Man City after emphatic win over Liverpool

Roy Keane has praised Manchester City’s performance after their 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield, describing the result as a statement win following a turbulent period surrounding the club’s financial regulations case.

Liverpool competed on relatively even terms for the opening hour, but Ryan Gravenberch’s dismissal in the 62nd minute changed the course of the match, allowing City to capitalise on their numerical advantage.
Keane said the performance showed the team’s ability to respond to pressure, despite the controversy surrounding the club during the international break.

Keane highlights City’s response to pressure
Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Manchester United captain said City had answered the criticism surrounding them with their performance on the pitch.
“There have been lots of statements made over the last few weeks, but the team made a statement today,” Keane said.
“The sending off was a big help but you still have to show your quality. The three goals were fantastic.”
Keane also praised Maresca’s start to the season, suggesting City had adapted well despite concerns about changes within the team.
“You’re thinking, ‘Pep who?’ at this stage. It’s not even been mentioned the concerns we had when Pep left or Rodri,” he added.
The pundit also singled out Doku for his influence after coming off the bench, noting that the winger’s direct approach helped City take control of the game.
City had faced intense attention following an independent commission’s findings in their financial case. The club has challenged the verdict through an appeal process.
Sturridge and Richards acknowledge turning point
Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge stressed that Gravenberch’s red card was decisive in shifting the balance of the contest.
“The game changed on the red card. We have to be truthful about that,” Sturridge said.
“City delivered after the red card changed the game. Prior to that, it was very even.”
Micah Richards also praised City’s attitude, saying the players had responded positively to the criticsm surrounding the club.
He described their display as a complete performance after they had been challenged to demonstrate unity and concentration at Anfield.
Anderson praises City’s togetherness
Midfielder Elliot Anderson said the players had relied on teamwork and determination to overcome a difficult away fixture.
“We’ve shown real togetherness and fight. It’s a tough place to come and it’s challenging,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
“We really stuck together out there, fought for each other and played well.”
Anderson admitted City had struggled during parts of the first half but said their performance improved after the break.
