Alonso praises “complete” Chelsea player Morgan Rogers

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised Morgan Rogers following another impressive performance in the club’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth, with the England international continuing to make an impact since his summer arrival from Aston Villa.
Rogers scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season on Saturday, strengthening his position in Alonso’s plans after a transfer reportedly worth €138 million.

The 24-year-old has also registered four assists in eight appearances across all competitions.
The midfielder had previously attracted interest from Arsenal, with reports suggesting he came close to joining Mikel Arteta’s side before Chelsea secured his signature in July.

Alonso highlights Rogers’ qualities
Speaking after the Bournemouth victory, Alonso described Rogers as a complete modern footballer and expressed satisfaction with his early contributions at Stamford Bridge.
“No, [his form isn’t a surprise] because he is young, he’s fresh, he’s strong and he’s quick – he is a very complete modern football player,” Alonso told reporters.
The Chelsea manager also highlighted Rogers’ fitness, attitude and growing relationship with his team-mates as important factors behind his strong start.
“His availability is also very high and this is very important. He looks fresh and he is enjoying [his football] because he’s a great guy and is connecting very well with his team-mates, and with everyone. He is having a great impact on the team and the club.”
Rogers has adapted quickly to Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 formation, establishing himself as a key option in the attacking areas. His performances have strengthened expectations surrounding the club’s significant investment in the midfielder.
Gittens faces uncertain Chelsea future
While Rogers continues to impress, Jamie Gittens faces an uncertain future as he struggles to secure regular playing time in west London.
The winger has yet to make a Premier League appearance this season and missed the Bournemouth match after suffering an ankle injury while on international duty with England’s Under-21 side.
His limited opportunities have raised questions about his long-term prospects at Chelsea, with a loan move or permanent departure reportedly possible in 2027.
Italian club AS Roma were previously linked with Gittens during the summer transfer window and could renew their interest next year.
