Crystal Palace punish Forest after Glasner’s winning return turns sour

Crystal Palace overturned an early deficit to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Selhurst Park, spoiling Oliver Glasner’s return to the club he previously guided to major silverware.

Forest made a bright start on Sunday, taking the lead through Dan Ndoye’s low finish in the third minute. However, Palace responded with two goals before half-time before Yeremy Pino added a third in the second half to secure the victory.

The result lifted Palace to 12th in the Premier League standings, while Forest dropped to 14th after failing to maintain their early advantage.

Glasner left Palace at the end of last season after leading them to FA Cup and European success before taking charge of Forest in the summer.

Palace turn the game around before half-time

Forest controlled much of the opening period and looked capable of extending their lead as Palace struggled to contain their attacking threat.

Liam Delap came close to making it 2-0, but goalkeeper Walter Benitez produced an important save to deny him from close range. Forest also threatened through Morgan Gibbs-White, whose effort struck the crossbar.

Those missed opportunities proved costly as Palace found their way back into the contest.

Daichi Kamada restored parity four minutes before the interval, finishing a well-worked team move to register his first Premier League goal.

Palace then completed the turnaround deep into stoppage time when Jefferson Lerma headed home to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break.

Forest appeared to have lost control of a match they had largely dominated, while Palace gained confidence from their late first-half surge.

Pino seals victory as Forest struggle to respond

Palace continued their improvement after the restart, with Pino extending their advantage by placing a finish into the bottom corner.

The goal strengthened the hosts’ position and prompted supporters to direct chants at Glasner, who had previously delivered historic success during his time at the club.

Forest attempted to find a route back into the match, but Benitez remained alert and produced another fine save late on to prevent substitute Chris Wood from reducing the deficit.

There was also controversy surrounding Palace’s second goal. Replays appeared to show the ball brushing Anan Khalaili’s elbow during Lerma’s headed finish, although the goal was allowed to stand.

For Palace, the comeback offered encouragement after a difficult start to the season. Forest, meanwhile, were left to consider how their early dominance failed to translate into points.
