Peter Obi appeals to skeptics, says future generations deserve better opportunities

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has appealed to Nigerians who remain unconvinced by his political message, urging them to consider the future of younger generations.

Speaking during an interview with journalist Rufai Oseni, Obi said his desire is to help create a society that offers today’s youth the same opportunities that were available to his generation.

He argued that many older Nigerians have already achieved financial success and should focus on building a better future rather than accumulating more wealth.

The former governor also lamented what he described as excessive greed among some members of the political and economic elite, questioning the value of acquiring more resources than one could ever reasonably need.

Reflecting on his early years in business, Obi recalled purchasing his first brand-new car in the early 1980s and spoke about a period when Nigeria’s economy provided greater opportunities for entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens.

He cited his experiences as a trader who frequently travelled abroad, using those memories to illustrate what he believes was a more prosperous era for many Nigerians.

The interview went thus …

Rufai Oseni: Do you have a message for those who, no matter what you say, will never say, “Let me give this man a chance”?

Mr. Peter Obi: I am appealing to them, for the sake of their own grandchildren, let’s build a society. Some of them might think they have made enough money. I want to give young Nigerians the opportunity God gave me back then.

People of my age today are ste@ling what they don’t need—how long will they live?

I bought my first brand-new car in 1981 for ₦2,700 and later bought a brand-new 505 SR for ₦7,200. I used to trade in Nigeria and travel to London every weekend. I used to enter Nigeria airways flight from Lagos to New York then was about 155 for a ticket.
