“One of Edo’s biggest political trees has fallen” — Wike mourns Dan Orbih
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has mourned the death of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dan Orbih, describing the late politician as a true friend, committed political ally and accomplished politician.
Orbih, the PDP National Vice Chairman for the South-South, reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 64.

Reacting to the death, Wike expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing Orbih as “a friend indeed” and one of the biggest political figures in Edo State.
Wike recalls friendship with late PDP chieftain
In a condolence message issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said Orbih’s death was both painful and personal.
Wike said, “I have lost a friend and a committed political ally. Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in friendship and political association.”
He also acknowledged the difficulty of accepting the loss, adding, “But we can’t question God. He gives, and He takes.”
Minister pays tribute to Orbih’s legacy
Wike further described the deceased as a good friend, great politician and man of faith while extending condolences to his family and political associates.
He said, “On behalf of myself, my family and political associates, I commiserate with the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih on the demise of Chief Dan Orbih, a good friend, a great politician and a man of faith in the Almighty God. May his soul rest in peace.”
Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih, his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his siblings and extended family.
