Married lady cries out after husband asks how long her divorced sister will stay in their house

A married lady has shared her dilemma after her husband expressed discomfort over her younger sister staying with them following the breakdown of the sister’s marriage.

The woman, identified as Sylvia Okonkwo on Facebook, said she welcomed her younger sister into her home after her three year marriage ended, adding that the marriage had produced no child.

‘I Didn’t Even Think Twice’

The woman said her sister called her crying one evening and told her she could no longer remain in her matrimonial home.

“My younger sister came to stay with me after her marriage crashed. Honestly, I didn’t even think twice before asking her to come,” she wrote.

“I mean, she’s my sister, and whatever she was going through, I knew I couldn’t just sit and watch her struggle.”

She explained that her sister had been married for about three years without a child before the marriage suddenly ended.

“One evening, she called me crying, saying she won’t stay a day in that house anymore. I asked her what happened, but she couldn’t even talk properly. She was crying so much that I told her to pack a few things and come to my house.”

‘This Is Your Sister’s House’

The woman’s husband was present when her sister arrived and initially welcomed her without any complaint.

“He didn’t complain. In fact, he told her, ‘This is your sister’s house. Make yourself comfortable.’ Omo! I was grateful,” she said.

For the first few weeks, she said there was no problem in the household.

She also tried reaching her sister’s estranged husband but said he did not answer her calls.

Meanwhile, her sister gradually settled into the home and began helping with household activities.

“My sister helped around the house, played with the children, cooked sometimes even when I’ll tell her not to,” she wrote.

‘She Would Sit With Us Until Very Late’

The woman said her sister eventually became increasingly involved in conversations between her and her husband.

“Sometimes, she would sit in the living room with us until very late at night. Other times, she would join conversations between my husband and me that had nothing to do with her.”

She initially did not consider the behaviour a problem.

“If my husband complained about something, she would give her opinion. If I complained about something, she would also give her opinion,” she said.

“At first, I didn’t see anything wrong with it. After all, she’s my blood sister.”

Husband Raises Concern

The situation changed after the woman and her husband had a minor disagreement.

She said her sister came out of her room and began explaining to her husband why she believed he was wrong.

“I looked at her like… ”

After her sister returned to her room, the woman’s husband expressed his concern privately.

“My husband quietly told me, ‘I don’t think your sister should be involved in our disagreements.’”

The woman admitted that his comment initially annoyed her.

“I told him, ‘She’s my sister. Maybe she’s just trying to help.’”

Her husband then reminded her that the issue concerned their marriage.

“He said, ‘I understand that, but this is still our marriage.’”

‘He Was Becoming Uncomfortable’

The conversation made the woman begin to view the situation differently.

“Because the truth is, my sister was going through a lot. She had nowhere else to stay at the moment, and I didn’t want her to feel like she was a burden,” she explained.

“At the same time, I started noticing that my husband was becoming uncomfortable.”

She said her husband began avoiding certain conversations whenever her sister was around.

“He stopped discussing certain things around the house,” she said.

“Sometimes, he would even wait until we were alone before telling me something.”

‘How Long Is Your Sister Going to Stay?’

The woman said her husband eventually asked her directly how long her sister intended to remain in their home.

“One day, he finally said to me, ‘How long is your sister going to stay with us?’”

She said she questioned why he was asking.

“He said nothing, that he’s thinking it’s time she left the house.”

The development left the woman torn between supporting her sister and addressing her husband’s concerns.

“I didn’t know whether to be angry or understand him,” she wrote.

“How’s my sister’s stay affecting him in any way in this house? I’ve asked myself countless times.”

‘I Don’t Know How to Tell My Sister to Leave’

The woman said she was now struggling to find a solution that would not hurt either her sister or her husband.

“Now I don’t even know how to tell my sister to leave the house or how to let my husband understand that she needs me at this point in her life,” she said.
