Man shares alleged ₦1 million fraud ordeal after withdrawing cash from roadside POS

A Nigerian man has shared how he allegedly lost ₦1 million to suspected fraud after withdrawing cash from a roadside POS operator, warning Nigerians to be careful when using unregistered POS agents.
Speaking in a video shared on TikTok by @travelwithscottpears, he explained that he used his FCMB card for a transaction during a trip to Badagry. However, hours later, he discovered that ₦1 million had been withdrawn from his account without his knowledge.
In his words, he said:
“I have finally fallen victim to fraud, online fraud. So you see those people that are on the streets, where the only thing you see them carrying is money and POS, walking around. Please, as long as they don’t have a shop, do not withdraw from them. You’ll regret it.
I travelled to Badagry and made a withdrawal with my FCMB card. Everything went well, but around 11 p.m., I saw a withdrawal of one million naira from my account.”
The man explained that he immediately visited his bank, where officials confirmed the transaction and traced it to the last POS terminal where he had withdrawn money.
He further alleged that investigations revealed the money was transferred into a SportyBet account, making him believe his card details had been compromised during the transaction.
“When we checked, we saw that the money was withdrawn into a SportyBet account because the person doesn’t want to be tracked. Obviously, I was hacked. This is another way they are taking money from people. Please be careful with those people on the roadside carrying POS machines,” he added.
His remarks has sparked concern online, with many advising others to use only trusted POS agents and bank ATMs to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
