“Lucky” to miss out – Klopp takes playful dig at Chelsea’s Caicedo, Lavia, praises Endo

Jurgen Klopp took a playful dig at summer targets Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, claiming Liverpool were “lucky” to miss them.

The duo who joined Chelsea in a combined £168 million deal, have faced underwhelming forms at the West London club, with Lavia yet to make his first minute.

Klopp made the comments during a test event for Anfield Road’s newly expanded stand.

Addressing a crowd of approximately 7,000 from the pitch, Klopp joked about Liverpool’s fortune in the last transfer market.

“The summer we had a few strange things happen in the transfer market but here, between us, I can say, ‘My god, were we lucky, eh?'”

He expressed contentment with the outcome, adding, “We didn’t know that in that moment and it didn’t feel like it in that moment, but yeah, I’m really happy that it worked out, but you never know before.”

While Liverpool missed out on their primary targets, Klopp noted the success of alternative signings like Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo.

He playfully remarked, “We obviously realised that other central defensive midfielders don’t want to join Liverpool, you see what happens, and then we found [Wataru] Endo. He’s an exceptional player.”

Endo, who joined Liverpool from Stuttgart for £16 million, has been a standout performer, scoring a crucial goal in a 4-3 victory against Fulham.

Klopp praised the Japanese international’s impact, emphasizing his strength and quick adaptation to the challenges of the Premier League.
