La Liga: Getafe, Sevilla keen to sign Greenwood on permanent deal

Spanish clubs Getafe and Sevilla are reportedly keen for a permanent move for Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood.

The 22-year-old is currently serving a loan deal at Getafe, after making the move on summer transfer deadline day.

The Red Devils had opted for the player to make the move, in order to continue his career, after defiant reactions from the Old Trafford fans.

Greenwood had been suspended last year following charges of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, in February, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges and discontinued the case.

Since joining Getafe, Greenwood has made five appearances and has scored his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo, shortly before the international break.

His performances in LaLiga haven’t gone unnoticed, with Sevilla expressing their interest, and Getafe reportedly moving for a permanent deal at the expiration of his loan.

The young talent is currently on a £75,000-a-week deal with Manchester United that runs until June 2025. According to reports by Mail Online, Sevilla might face competition from Getafe in securing Greenwood’s permanent move to the Madrid-based club.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s CEO, Richard Arnold has explained the club’s decision regarding Greenwood during a Fans’ Forum.

He said, “With Mason, as I am sure you can appreciate, this was an extremely difficult and complex situation,” referring to the investigation that led to the conclusion that Greenwood’s career should continue elsewhere.

While Greenwood is trying to regain form in Spain, United have been under scrutiny for its handling of the player’s situation, with claims of covering up allegations involving other players like Antony.
