“I thought we were surviving on ₦300k” – Wife threatens divorce as husband secretly saves ₦20m to japa

A Nigerian man has shared the story of his colleague whose wife reportedly threatened to end their marriage after discovering that he had secretly saved more than ₦20 million for their relocation.

The story was shared on X by @prince_dc21_, who explained that the man had kept his salary increase from his family for three years.

‘His Salary Increased From ₦300k to ₦850k’

According to the post, the man received a promotion at work, causing his monthly salary to increase from ₦300,000 to ₦850,000.

However, he reportedly chose not to tell anyone in his family, including his wife.

“My colleague got a promotion at work, and his salary increased from #300k to #850k. But he didn’t tell anyone in his family, not even his wife,” the post read.

The man reportedly explained that he had been unable to save any money during his first two years of employment.

‘They Would Only Increase Their Billing’

When his colleagues asked why he had kept the promotion and salary increase secret, he reportedly explained that he feared his family would increase their financial demands.

“When we asked him why, he said for the two years he had been working, he hadn’t been able to save a dime.

“He said if his family found out about the promotion, they would only increase their billing, so he decided to keep quiet,” @prince_dc21_ wrote.

The man reportedly continued living as though he was still earning ₦300,000 while saving the additional ₦550,000 every month.

‘He Had Saved Over ₦20m’

The strategy allegedly continued for three years, allowing the man to accumulate more than ₦20 million.

“He continued living like he was still earning #300k and started saving the extra #550k every month.

“Three years later, he had saved over N20M,” the post stated.

He then reportedly began making plans to relocate abroad and eventually received approval for his visa.

‘You’ve Been Lying to Me for 3 Years’

The man reportedly told his wife about the salary increase, savings and relocation plans after his visa was approved.

The revelation allegedly angered her, with the woman threatening to end their marriage.

“The woman got angry and said she was done with the marriage,” the post read.

She reportedly told her husband that she had made sacrifices because she believed the family was still surviving on his supposed ₦300,000 monthly salary.

“She told him, ‘You’ve been lying to me for 3 years. I was making sacrifices and doing things I wasn’t supposed to do because I thought we were surviving on #300k,’” @prince_dc21_ wrote.

‘Everything I Did Was for Our Future’

The man has reportedly been trying to explain that his decision was intended to secure their future and make relocation possible.

“The man has been trying to explain that everything he did was for their future and that he wanted to build something for both of them.

“But she doesn’t want to hear it Now the man has the #2OM, the visa and the plan to leave the country… But his marriage might not be going with him,” the post added.
