“You’re old enough to plan your time” – 16-year-old boy reportedly locks dad out after 11 PM
A man has shared a humorous story about how his father ended up being affected by a strict rule he had enforced in the family for years.
The man revealed that his father had a rule that nobody in the house was allowed to ask anyone else to open the gate after 11 PM.

‘You Had Your Keys or You Slept Outside’
According to the man, his father always insisted that anyone who returned home after 11 PM was responsible for gaining access to the house.
“My dad had one strict rule: after 11 PM, nobody was allowed to ask anyone else to open the gate. If you came home late, you had your keys or you slept outside.
“He always said, ‘Everyone in this house is old enough to plan their time,’” he wrote.
However, the rule reportedly came back to haunt his father when he returned home late one night.
‘Dad, It’s 11:10’
The man explained that his father returned home at about 11:10 PM after dinner but realised he had accidentally left his keys at the restaurant.
He reportedly called his 16-year-old son and asked him to open the gate.
“My brother looked at the time and said, ‘Dad, it’s 11:10. You’re old enough to plan your time.’
“Then he switched off the porch light and went back to bed,” the man stated.

According to the storyteller, his father and his wife eventually gave up and decided to find somewhere else to spend the night.
“My dad just called me today laughing. Apparently, he and his wife eventually gave up, went back out, and booked an Airbnb for the night,” he wrote.
The man noted that his father had effectively become the first person to suffer the consequences of the rule he had established.
“Imagine creating a rule, enforcing it for years, and then being the first person to suffer from it,” he added.
‘The Restaurant Was Too Far’
The father reportedly returned to the restaurant the following morning to retrieve his keys.
The man explained that his father could not return to the restaurant that night because it was too far away.
