First Bank appoints Julius Omodayo Owotuga as executive director

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has appointed Dr Julius Omodayo Owotuga as Executive Director, beginning May 13, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a notification filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited and distributed to investors on Thursday.
Abiola Baruwa, the corporate secretary, signed the notification on behalf of First HoldCo Plc.
According to the announcement, Omodayo-Owotuga will enhance the bank’s leadership in strategic finance, governance, risk management, and institutional change.
The Central Bank of Nigeria approved the appointment.
“Dr. Julius B. Omodayo-Owotuga has twenty-four (24) years of expertise in banking and financial services, infrastructure finance, electricity, oil and gas, auditing, and consultancy. “His appointment demonstrates the Bank’s ongoing commitment to strong governance, disciplined execution, financial resilience, and long-term growth.”
“Before this appointment, he served on the Board of First HoldCo Plc as a Non-Executive Director, between 2021 and 2026,” the statement said.
Before his appointment, he was the Deputy Chief Executive of Geregu Power Plc, where he oversaw governance reorganization, capital market positioning, and operational efficiency, as well as the company’s listing on the Nigerian Exchange.
He formerly worked as the Group Executive Director for Finance and Risk Management at Forte Oil Plc (now Ardova Plc), where he oversaw financial restructuring, capital raising, and enterprise risk management projects.
He has also worked at Africa Finance Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG Professional Services, and MBC International Bank.
Omodayo-Owotuga is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and the Institute of Credit Administration.
He has a doctorate in business administration, an MBA, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and has attended various major universities, including the University of Oxford and IE Business School.
