Career
Atiya began by studying urban and regional planning, but quickly found that his true love lay elsewhere.
Atiya’s first major initiative was Naija Diamonds, which he took over in 2008. In the same year, he was shortlisted for the British Council’s International Young Entrepreneur Awards and received a scholarship to Creative Lives, a British Council-supported development course at the Lagos Business School. Atiya met his wife, Karachi, during this programme.
In 2012, Atiya opted to enroll in the New York Film Academy, where he took professional filmmaking and production classes at its campuses in New York and California.
Atiya created nearly 500 TV episodes and five feature films. Atiya has worked as a photographer for the London Theatre and was previously the head of photography for Konga.com.
He also co-created, executive produced, produced, co-wrote, and directed The Rishantes, a drama series on Africa Magic and ShowMax.
The show was nominated for Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, where it won.
