EPL: Arsenal stun Liverpool to narrow gap in league standing

Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations suffered a major setback as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for Arsenal, followed by an own goal from Gabriel Magalhaes off a Luis Diaz pass.

The tightly contested encounter ended 1-1 at half-time. Early in the second half, a long ball over the top caused chaos in Liverpool’s defense.

Virgil van Dijk who is usually relied on to take off the ball from danger zone, allowed it to bounce, while attempting to shield Gabriel Martinelli from reaching it before Alisson Becker could collect.

However, a miscommunication led to a complete breakdown in defense, with the ball falling to Martinelli, who calmly slotted it into an empty net.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Scott Minto placed the blame on Alisson for the defensive lapse, criticizing the goalkeeper’s failure to take control of the situation

Meanwhile, Martinelli’s goal, coupled with a Leandro Trossard strike through Alisson’s legs after Ibrahima Konate’s red card, sealed a memorable win for Arsenal, leaving Liverpool disappointed.
