Man United make Luke Shaw contract decision as replacement emerges
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer Luke Shaw only a short-term contract extension as the club considers bringing in a new left-back.
Shaw is entering the final year of his current agreement at Old Trafford, with reports suggesting there is currently no clear indication that United intend to keep their longest-serving player beyond the end of the season.

The England international enjoyed an improved 2025/26 campaign under Michael Carrick after years of being disrupted by injuries, but his fitness record remains a concern for the club.
United’s decision not to sign another left-back during the summer has already caused problems, with Shaw missing matches this season.
United consider Mitchell as Shaw replacement
According to TEAMtalk, United are “only prepared to offer Shaw a short-term extension to his current contract”, while sources close to the club believe the defender could leave when his existing deal expires.
The report also claims the Red Devils are considering signing a replacement in January, with Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell among the options being assessed.
Mitchell, 27, is also approaching the final months of his contract at Selhurst Park, making his situation particularly attractive to United.
The England international has reportedly emerged as a potential upgrade as INEOS looks to add a younger and more durable option to the defensive unit.
Club sources are said to view the recruitment of a long-term left-back as part of the plans to strengthen United’s defence and improve squad depth.
Mitchell reportedly open to United move
Mitchell could also be available for a reduced fee in January if he fails to agree a new contract with Palace, despite his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
The defender is reportedly “extremely keen” on a move to Old Trafford and would accept an offer from United.
United had previously considered Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall as a priority target but were unable to complete a deal after being priced out of a move.
