2027 AFCONQ: Moses Usor reveals what Super Eagles fans can expect from him

Moses Usor has promised to bring pace, incisive play and total commitment if he gets the opportunity to make his Super Eagles debut against Madagascar or Guinea-Bissau.

The 24-year-old attacker earned another invitation from head coach Eric Chelle after an impressive campaign with Austrian club LASK, where he helped the team complete a domestic league and cup double in the 2025-26 season.

Usor was included in Nigeria’s 24-man squad for the September 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after an injury prevented him from featuring in the 2026 Unity Cup.

Usor ready to make his mark

The LASK forward faces strong competition for a place in Nigeria’s attack, with Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon among the other options available to Chelle, while Victor Osimhen is absent.

However, Usor says he is focused on offering his own qualities rather than worrying about the competition.

“I hold tremendous respect for each of them. My objective is to contribute my distinctive strengths, my pace and incisive play, while supporting the team’s objectives,” Usor told Footy-Africa.

“Regardless of the position Coach Eric Chelle assigns me for the Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau matches, I will give my complete commitment.”

The attacker also called on Nigerian supporters to back the team, saying he wants to repay their support if handed his debut.

“I hope the fans will come out to cheer us on matchday because, if I play, I want to do well and show my sincere gratitude to all Nigerians and everyone who has supported my career from the Czech Republic through Austria.

“I will represent this nation with honour and dedication. This is merely the beginning. With God’s blessing, I am determined to make you all proud,” he added.

Injury setback makes call-up special

Usor’s latest invitation carries extra significance after injury ruled him out of the Unity Cup earlier this year.

Nigeria went on to win the competition for the fourth consecutive time, beating Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semi-final before defeating Jamaica 3-0 in the final.

The LASK forward admitted that missing the tournament was difficult but credited his family, club and mentors for helping him through his rehabilitation.

“It’s truly wonderful, to be honest, to get another invitation. The injury that kept me out of the Unity Cup was incredibly difficult to endure, yet I remained committed and optimistic,” he said.

Usor added that the setback strengthened his determination to return to the national team.

“I remained dedicated to the recovery process, completed my rehabilitation diligently and resolved that I would return even stronger,” he concluded.

Nigeria will begin their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Madagascar on Friday before facing Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
