Emma Hayes becomes world’s highest-paid female coach as she accepts US job

Emma Hayes is now world’s highest-paid female coach, following her appointment as head coach of the USA Women’s National Team.

Hayes, the current Chelsea women’s manager will leave the club at the end of the season and assume the role with the USWNT.

The highly decorated coach expressed excitement about the opportunity, she said, “This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history.”

Having led Chelsea to multiple titles, including six WSL titles and a Champions League final, Hayes is regarded as one of the most influential managers in women’s football.

Recall her departure from Chelsea was announced earlier this month, and she will take up her new role after the conclusion of the current season.

The deal with the USWNT will reportedly see the 47-year-old bag an estimated annual salary of $1.6 million (£1.3 million).

Meanwhile, she will have a lot of work to do, as she faces the challenge of managing a transitioning US women’s team, with many key players retiring.

Her first major tournament will be the Olympics in 2024, where the US has already qualified.
