A man has sparked a conversation online after outlining his expectations about finances in his future marriage, insisting that he and his wife would treat their earnings as family money.

In a message addressed to his “future wife”, the man said he would not recognise the idea of separate finances once they were married.

He explained that if his wife earned ₦300,000 while he earned ₦500,000, the combined family income would be ₦800,000, rather than each person keeping their earnings separately.

The man also addressed how expenses involving their future children should be handled.

He said he would not expect his wife to seek reimbursement after spending money on their children while he was away, arguing that both parents would share responsibility for their upbringing.

The man said, “And if you spend ₦100K on our children while I’m away, please don’t come with an invoice asking me to refund you.”

He added, “They are our children, not a business investment where we keep receipts and calculate who spent more.”
