Man United receive Martinez boost ahead of Leeds friendly

Manchester United have received a boost with Lisandro Martinez returning to full training ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Argentina international joined the squad at Carton House in County Kildare on Monday after being given additional time off following his involvement in the World Cup final.

Martinez also completed a full training session with the squad after recovering from the thigh problem that forced him off during Argentina’s final pre-season match against Spain.

Martinez expected to feature soon

Although Martinez is back in training, he is unlikely to play when United face Leeds United at Croke Park on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are also expected to miss the friendly after only recently joining the squad and completing a limited number of sessions.

All three players could receive playing time when United face AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday as Michael Carrick gradually increases their workload.

Martinez is expected to be fit for the start of the Premier League campaign, although Carrick must still decide whether the defender will start United’s opening fixture against Hull City on August 22.

The defender’s return could provide an important boost to United’s options at centre-back after Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven started each of the club’s first four pre-season matches.
