Chelsea to Face Newcastle in Carabao Cup quarter-finals

Chelsea will face Newcastle United in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

This was disclosed in an official statement on Chelsea official website on Thursday.

The Blues announced that the match has been slated to hold at Stamford Bridge on Monday, December 18.

Recall that Chelsea secured their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, after defeating Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening.

Mranwhile, Chelsea has a history of facing Newcastle in the League Cup quarter-finals, with memorable clashes in the past.

In 2001, a last-minute header by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink resulted in a 1-0 win for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Five years later, at St James’ Park, Didier Drogba’s free-kick secured Chelsea’s place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Newcastle under Eddie Howe, displayed an impressive performance to eliminate Manchester United in the competition, winning 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The other fixtures in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals include Everton vs Fulham, Port Vale vs Middlesbrough, and Liverpool vs. West Ham.

The Blues last won the Carabao Cup in 2015, and are looking to make a strong claim for the title this season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
