Bayern Munich reportedly in talks with Xabi Alonso for managerial role

Bayern Munich have reportedly initiated discussions with Xabi Alonso regarding their vacant head coach position.

This serves as a potentially blow to Liverpool’s hopes of securing the former player as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

Following the decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, Bayern Munich is in search of a new manager.

According to Sky Sports, Alonso’s camp has indicated his interest in the role, despite Liverpool’s rumoured interest in him.

However, any move would require either Bayern Munich or Liverpool to pay Bayer Leverkusen a substantial release fee of £12.8 million as compensation for Alonso’s services.

Alonso has received widespread recognition for his managerial stint at Bayer Leverkusen.

The Spanish gaffer has guided the team to a ten-point lead over Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race with just ten games remaining.

Liverpool, who are also eyeing Alonso as a potential replacement for Klopp, will face tough competition if they wish to secure his services.

When asked about the interest from both clubs, Alonso remained diplomatic.

He said, “Bayern, Liverpool? I have nothing new to say. Right now, I’m Bayer Leverkusen coach, and that’s certain. Regarding the future, I have nothing new to say.”
