Hazard backs Chelsea to challenge for Premier League title

Eden Hazard believes Chelsea have the quality to challenge for the Premier League title under head coach Xabi Alonso, although he admits the race will be difficult.

Chelsea have collected seven points from their opening four league matches and currently sit sixth in the table ahead of Friday’s meeting with Brentford.

Hazard, who spent seven years at Stamford Bridge, said the competitiveness of the Premier League makes winning the title a demanding task.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Belgium international expressed his hope that Chelsea can eventually climb to the top of the table.

“The Premier League is brutally competitive, and winning the title is by no means easy,” Hazard said.

“But as I just said, we hope the team [Chelsea] reaches the top. The Premier League title is extremely difficult to contend for.

“However, they have an excellent coach, outstanding players, and a solid squad foundation, so let’s wait and see.”

Hazard’s comments come as Chelsea prepare for their next league fixture against Brentford, with Alonso looking to build on the team’s early-season results.
