Armed robber with POS machine nabbed while robbing victims in Rivers

A daring armed robber equipped with a Point of Sale (POS) machine was captured while in the act of robbing victims in Rivers State.

The incident unfolded in the town of Onne, located in the Eleme area of Rivers State, on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

The timely intervention by the security team of the Onne Youth Congress (OYC) led to the apprehension of one suspect, while his accomplice managed to escape the scene during a high-stakes chase.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was seized by the OYC security team as he attempted to carry out a robbery spree at gunpoint.

The duo was armed not only with conventional weapons but also a POS machine, which they utilized to directly transfer funds from the bank accounts of their unfortunate victims.

Comrade Douglas Ollor, the Special Assistant on Media to the President of OYC, revealed that the criminals’ modus operandi involved coercing individuals to divulge their ATM card PINs, after which they executed instant transfers through the POS device.

“In the early hours of yesterday Tuesday 22-08-2023, two men in a Keke mini bus were found around F.O.T. axis, using gun to steal ATM card from people, forcing the owners to release their ATM pin, and then use the card to make an instant transfer, using the P.O.S. machine they came with.”
“Luck ran out of them when they entered inside the community, as the S.A. on media to the Onne Youth President, Comr. Douglas Ollor, saw them and raised alarm which alerted the security architecture in Onne.
“The OYC security team chased them to Nafcon junction where one was caught, and one ran away.
After much interrogation, and disciplinary actions, the ATM robber confessed they have been in the business for a while now.
“The suspect said they park their Toyota Spider at Refinary junction, and use keke mini bus to enter Onne, do their biddings, then return back
“However, the security team didn’t take laws into their hands, they handed over the robber to the army personnel that were on duty at the Nafcon junction axis,” Comrade Douglas Ollor.
