Antonio Conte’s ‘rich histroy’ next job statement sparks Man United talks

Manchester United could explore a move for Antonio Conte as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick if the club decides to make another change in the dugout.
Conte is currently without a club after leaving Napoli at the end of last season, and his latest comments about the type of project he wants next have fuelled speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

United’s difficult start to the season has added to the uncertainty around Carrick. The Red Devils have managed just one win from their opening five league matches and currently sit 12th in the Premier League.

Conte’s comments fuel United speculation
Conte recently explained that he wants his next job to involve a club with a major history and the expectation of challenging for trophies.
“If you go to a club where the history speaks for itself, a history made up of trophies, league titles and victories, you can only honour that history in one way: by having the ambition to bring that club back, if it isn’t there today – to fight for those goals,” Conte told The Athletic.
The Italian also said he wants to take charge of a club where there is genuine pressure to compete rather than simply participate.
“There are many clubs that have somewhat lost sight of their history,” Conte said. “I’d like to go to one of these clubs to dust off that history and make it shine once more.”
Those comments have inevitably drawn attention to United, given their prolonged struggle to return to the top of English football.
The club have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in 2012-13, while their search for consistency has continued under successive managers.
