AFCON 2023: Tunisia left third in Group E after draw against Mali

Tunisia are yet to find their grip at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following their recent 1-1 draw against Mali.

North Africa countries have so far struggled to put up an impression in the Ivory Coast tournament, except Morocco who look promising after a 3-0 victory against Tanzania in their opening game.

Tunisia have just one point in two games and had to come from behind to equalize Mali in the Saturday night encounter at Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly.

Mali took the lead early, with Lassine Sinayoko’s 10-minute screamer, putting Tunisia under pressure.

However, the Eagles of Carthage braced up to the challenge, leveling the score 10 minutes later with Hamza Rafia’s tap in.

Both teams entered the second half with renewed energy, with Mali creating series of missed chances. Meanwhile, their first half goals emerged the ultimate decider at the end of the day, as the game ended draw.

While it might not be the game they wanted, Tunisia are still hopeful in third place, with their last group game coming up against South Africa on Wednesday next week.
