Nigeria’s Flamingos began their 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign in style, recording a 5-0 win over Niger Republic.

Captain Chidi Harmony opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Nigeria quickly established control of the contest.

The Flamingos continued to dominate possession and create pressure, with Awawu Bashiru doubling their advantage nine minutes before half-time.

Nigeria maintain control after break

Nigeria appeared to have added a third goal shortly before the interval, but the effort was ruled out for offside in the 42nd minute.

The Flamingos nevertheless went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead and resumed the second half with the same attacking energy.

Their relentless pressure eventually produced another breakthrough in the closing stages, with Ohunene Sunday scoring Nigeria’s third goal in the 83rd minute.

Mary Dunstan then struck just a minute later to put the Flamingos 4-0 ahead and effectively put the result beyond doubt.

Rotimi completes five-star victory

Nigeria continued to push forward despite their comfortable advantage, and Ayomide Rotimi added a fifth goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The final whistle confirmed a 5-0 victory, giving the Flamingos a perfect start to their regional campaign.

The result will provide Nigeria with confidence heading into their second group-stage fixture against Ghana on Saturday, September 19.
