2027: Peter Obi officially dumps ADC, cites reasons

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has officially announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi made this known in a lengthy statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where he explained the reasons behind his decision.

In the statement, he criticised the growing internal crises within political parties, noting that such issues continue to distract from addressing the real challenges facing Nigerians.

He clarified that his decision to leave the ADC was not due to any personal issues with party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as respected figures.

According to him, the same pattern of internal conflicts and political interference that affected the Labour Party now appears to be emerging within the ADC, marked by court cases, division, and struggles for control rather than a focus on national development.

Obi also expressed frustration over what he described as a political environment where sincere efforts are often misunderstood, and individuals committed to change are unfairly targeted or sidelined.

Reflecting on his experiences, he questioned why integrity, accountability, and prudent management of resources are sometimes misinterpreted as weakness or wrongdoing in Nigeria.

He, however, emphasised that his political ambition is not driven by personal gain.

“Let me assure all that I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or Senate President. I am desperate to see a society that can console a mother whose child has been kidnapped or killed while going to school or work,” he stated.

Despite his exit, Obi maintained that his commitment to building a better Nigeria remains unchanged, stressing his belief in a country driven by competent leadership, justice, compassion, and equal opportunity for all.
