“Why I’m never going to get married” – Tyler Perry

American filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry has revealed that he has no plans to get married, explaining that it is not marriage itself that worries him but the financial consequences he has seen people face after divorce.

Perry made the revelation while appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show as he promotes his latest film, Why Did I Get Married Again? The film is the latest instalment in his popular marriage-themed franchise.

Speaking about his decision to remain unmarried, Perry pointed to the experiences of people around him who suffered significant financial setbacks following divorce.

“I’m never going to get married. It’s not about the marriage but the divorce pandemic happening. Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce. So I’m good just being free,” he said.

The 57-year-old entertainment mogul has previously spoken about keeping his personal relationships private. He has one son, Aman, with his former partner Gelila Bekele and has maintained that he is not interested in marriage.

Perry’s latest comments come as he promotes Why Did I Get Married Again?, which reunites the characters from his earlier films and explores relationships, marriage and the challenges couples face. The new movie premiered on Netflix in September 2026.

His remarks have generated conversation online, particularly because they contrast the romantic themes often explored in his movies with his personal decision to remain single.

For Perry, however, the financial risks he associates with divorce appear to outweigh the appeal of marriage, leaving him comfortable with what he describes as the freedom of staying unmarried.
