MC Lively tackles Daddy Freeze over comments on Peter Obi’s wife’s luxury bag

Nigerian comedian MC Lively has criticised media personality Daddy Freeze over his recent comments concerning presidential candidate Peter Obi and a luxury Hermès bag carried by his wife.
Daddy Freeze had said he had no issue with Obi’s wife carrying an expensive bag, arguing that her husband was already wealthy before entering government.

However, he questioned whether the luxury item was consistent with Obi’s public image of prudence, particularly his claims that he owns only one pair of shoes and one watch.

Reacting to the comments, MC Lively also challenged the growing argument among some Nigerians that they would not support Peter Obi because of the behaviour of his supporters.
He argued that Nigerians have legitimate reasons to express their frustration over issues including insecurity, fuel prices and years of perceived neglect, and said it was unfair to use the conduct of some supporters as a reason to dismiss Obi’s political candidacy.
MC Lively further questioned whether Obi had ever claimed that his wife was helping him maintain a lifestyle of owning only one shoe and one watch, arguing that Obi’s wealth was accumulated before his time in government.
He also questioned why Nigerians should criticise the idea of a wealthy individual entering government to serve, rather than viewing it as an example of the kind of leadership the country should aspire to.
MC Lively said …
“With all due respect, sir, anytime I hear a person say, ‘I don’t support Peter Obi because of his supporters,’ I just know that you are a dishonest person. We have a ruling party that is actively stifling the opposition. A ruling party who actively tries to take your life. You don’t dislike them, but you dislike a part of Nigerians who are expressing how they feel because of the pain, the years of neglect, the fuel, 1,500 Naira, insecurity.
“People are expressing their pain at the dishonesty of many of our elders and you go, ‘Oh…’ It has become a regular thing to say, ‘I don’t support Peter Obi because of a supporter.’ I think that’s ridiculous. You don’t have anything to say about his time in government, you don’t have anything to say about the future of your children. You are not supporting him because his supporters are insulting or because they’ll come for you.
“But that’s not why I’m here. Now let’s go forward.
“When did Peter Obi say that his wife is helping him use one shoe and one watch? Did he say that his wife is impoverished? Did you not already say that he is a billionaire? He made money before government.
“Is this not what Nigerians are supposed to be aspiring to? To be someone who makes money and then goes to government to serve? Is that not what governance is?”
