Why I pray for Nigeria everyday – Ghana President, John Mahama

President John Mahama has emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s stability to the wider West African region, noting that developments in the country directly affect neighboring nations like Ghana.
Speaking on regional security and economic dynamics, Mahama pointed out that Nigeria’s large population and influence mean that its progress or challenges inevitably spill across borders.

He stressed that a stable and thriving Nigeria contributes positively to the prosperity of surrounding countries.
The Ghanaian leader also noted concerns about migration pressures, suggesting that instability in Nigeria could lead to increased movement of people into smaller neighboring nations.
His words in part …
“Nigeria is of key security interest to us. If Nigeria does well, Ghana does well. When you have cousins about 250 million of them, you would want them to do well so that one milion of them do not come drifting towards a small country like Ghana. So everyday when I wake up I pray to God and say God, let Nigeria get their act together…”
