What Iheanacho said after winning Scottish Premiership with Celtic

Kelechi Iheanacho expressed his delight after helping Celtic win the Scottish Premiership title in dramatic fashion against Hearts.

The Nigerian forward played his part as Celtic came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory and clinch a record-extending 56th league title at Celtic Park.

Iheanacho, who joined Celtic from Sevilla last summer, came on in the second half and added attacking energy during the decisive stages of the match.

Iheanacho reflects on emotional triumph

Speaking after the title victory, Iheanacho admitted the pressure inside the stadium was intense as Celtic chased the goals needed to secure the championship.

“It feels good; it feels so good that I can’t let go of this trophy,” Iheanacho told Sky Sports Scotland.

“Coming on knowing we needed a goal was a lot of tension, and the pressure was massive, but we knew what we needed to do since they were a very strong side.”

The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker also credited fortune for helping Celtic complete the comeback.

“The god of soccer was on our side today. It’s another silverware for me since I’ve not won one in a while,” he added.

Important contribution during title run

Although injuries disrupted part of his season, Iheanacho delivered several key moments during Celtic’s run-in.

The striker scored important goals in recent weeks, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Motherwell that kept Celtic in control of the title race.

Against Hearts, Iheanacho twice struck the woodwork after coming off the bench as Celtic pushed for victory before goals from Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand sealed the result.

Celtic move ahead of Rangers

The title success moves Celtic ahead of Rangers in total Scottish league championships, with the Glasgow club now holding 56 league titles.

Interim manager Martin O’Neill also secured another league triumph during his return to the club.
