“What happened to ₦2 million…?” — Family in trouble as man loses job after asking wife to resign from her government job

A personal family story shared on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked widespread discussion online about financial decisions within marriage, career sacrifice, and long-term consequences.
The post, shared by a lady who described the experience of her cousin, detailed how a marriage decision involving job resignation and money eventually led to years of regret and hardship.
Marriage decision and job resignation
According to the account, the woman’s husband transferred ₦2 million into her account and asked her to resign from her ₦300,000-per-month government job to focus on raising their children.
Her father reportedly opposed the decision, reminding her of the effort it took to secure the government position and the stability it provided.
Despite the warning, she eventually resigned from the job and remained at home to manage domestic responsibilities.
Financial pressure begins in the home
After leaving her job, tensions reportedly began to rise within the marriage over financial responsibilities and access to money.
Whenever she requested funds, her husband would remind her of the earlier transfer, asking: “What happened to the ₦2 million I gave you?”
Over time, he allegedly stopped contributing financially to the household altogether, leaving her increasingly dependent.
Health setback and job loss
Seven years later, the situation reportedly took another turn when the husband suffered a stroke.
He subsequently lost his job, further deepening the family’s financial struggles and shifting the burden of survival.
The development marked a major reversal in their household stability.
Life after separation from employment
The X user also claimed that the woman is now 47 years old and actively searching for employment.
However, she reportedly faces difficulties due to her third-class degree, lack of recent work experience, and limited marketable skills after years away from formal employment.
