Victor Boniface reaffirms commitment to Bayer Leverkusen amid transfer interest

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has reiterated his commitment to the Bundesliga champions, declaring he is “100 percent” focused on continuing with the club despite recent speculation over his future.

In an interview with Sport Bild, the Nigerian international dispelled any rumours of a potential summer move, stating his desire to remain and succeed under new manager Erik ten Hag.

“Absolutely,” Boniface said when asked if he intended to stay. “My future is here. From my perspective, it’s 100 percent clear that I’m staying.

“I still have three years left on my contract. I want to win titles with Bayer and have a great season.”

The 23-year-old, who joined Leverkusen in 2023 and is heading into his third season, also addressed past interest from Saudi club Al-Nassr during the January transfer window:

“The transfer didn’t work out. It is what it is. I’m here.”

Boniface spoke positively about his partnership with fellow striker Patrik Schick, referencing their joint performance in a 4-3 win over Stuttgart last season.

“We played together and had one of the best games of the season,” he said. “Patrik is a very good friend. We push each other every day.”

Despite the departure of key figures including Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah, Florian Wirtz, and former head coach Xabi Alonso, Boniface remains optimistic about the club’s future under Ten Hag.

“Of course, I miss my friends,” he admitted. “But we’ve got some good players and a great coach who’s had a lot of success at Ajax and Manchester United. There’s always movement in football, that’s normal.”

Boniface scored 14 league goals in Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign and is expected to play a leading role again this season as the club begins life under new leadership.
