Unity Cup: Durosinmi targets Super Eagles legacy after first call-up

Pisa striker Rafiu Durosinmi has opened up on his ambitions with the Super Eagles after receiving his maiden invitation to Nigeria’s senior national team ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London.

The 23-year-old forward was included in Eric Chelle’s squad for the four-nation tournament scheduled to run from May 26 to May 30.

Durosinmi is among several new faces invited as the Super Eagles begin preparations for the semi-final clash against Zimbabwe.

The striker only joined Pisa in January and has scored once for the Italian side so far. However, he impressed earlier in the season with Czech club Viktoria Plzen, where he registered 13 goals in 30 appearances before securing his move to Italy.

Striker reacts to maiden invitation

Speaking in an interview shared on the official Super Eagles social media page, Durosinmi admitted he felt emotional after learning about his invitation to the national team.

“I was so happy because it’s a great honor to be called out of many talents from Nigeria, all over the world,” he said.

“I sent the message to my family, my agent also, and they were all happy.”

The former Viktoria Plzen attacker described the invitation as a major milestone in his football career.

“It means a lot to me. It’s a great honor to put on the jersey. It’s a dream come to pass,” he added.

Durosinmi also revealed that he hopes to build a lasting legacy with the national team and become a player remembered by Nigerian fans.

“I want to finish my career as a legend. I want to be someone that played for the Super Eagles,” the striker stated.

“A name they’ll remember as someone that gave his best and was one of the best.”

The forward is now pushing to make his senior debut when Nigeria face Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup semi-final on Tuesday in London.
