Transfer: Bruno Guimaraes set for Arsenal medical
Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes after both clubs moved closer to reaching a full agreement for the Brazilian midfielder.
The 28-year-old is expected to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium once the remaining details of the transfer are finalised, with reports suggesting all parties are keen to conclude negotiations as quickly as possible.
Guimaraes travelled with Newcastle to their pre-season training camp in Spain, but uncertainty over his future has continued to dominate discussions as Arsenal push to secure one of their priority targets before the new campaign.
Newcastle softens stance
Newcastle had initially insisted that Guimaraes was not for sale and rejected the possibility of negotiating for their club captain.
However, the Premier League side are now reportedly willing to sanction the midfielder’s departure after the Brazil international expressed his desire to pursue a new challenge.
The former Lyon star is now waiting for permission from Newcastle to undergo a medical before completing the proposed move to north London.
Guimaraes was one of Newcastle’s standout performers last season, registering nine goals and eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
He also captained the Magpies to Carabao Cup success in 2025, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.
Arsenal continue squad rebuild
The potential arrival of Guimaraes would represent another major addition as Mikel Arteta continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
Arsenal have already reinforced several areas during the current transfer window and view the Brazilian as a key addition to bolster their midfield options.
His expected arrival has also influenced other transfer decisions, with midfielder Christian Norgaard reportedly receiving permission to leave the club and join Everton.
