Tottenham target mental reset, advertise Sports Psychologist position amid relegation battle

Tottenham Hotspur have moved to address concerns over player mentality by advertising for a lead performance psychologist as their Premier League struggles deepen.
The club, currently 18th in the Premier League, have gone 15 matches without a win and remain two points from safety with five games left.
Club targets mental reset
The recruitment drive follows comments from head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who has stressed the need to “change the mentality” within the squad after a poor run of results.
In a job posting on LinkedIn, Tottenham confirmed they are seeking an “outstanding performance psychologist” to deliver “evidence-based psychological support to elite players”.

“The role encompasses individual player support, systemic work across the coaching and performance staff, and the ongoing development of a psychologically informed performance culture throughout the team,” the club said.
“This role demands a practitioner who is credible, discreet, and highly effective in a Premier League environment.”
A separate vacancy has also been listed for a sport psychologist within the club’s women’s setup.
Pressure grows on De Zerbi
De Zerbi, appointed in March as Spurs’ third head coach of the season, has taken just one point from his opening two matches.
The Italian has publicly emphasised his responsibility to instil the “right mentality” as the club battles to avoid relegation.
On the pitch, results have continued to decline. Tottenham have not won a home league game in 2026, with their last victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium coming against Brentford in December.
Players have also acknowledged the psychological strain. Defender Micky van de Ven recently admitted the situation has been “mentally tough” and that the squad has been “suffering”.
With their last league win coming away at Crystal Palace in December, Tottenham’s focus now turns to both on-field results and off-field intervention as they attempt to secure survival.
