Ten-man Bayer Leverkusen complete domestic double with win in DFB-Pokal Final

Bayer Leverkusen clinched their second DFB-Pokal title on Saturday, defeating Kaiserslautern 1-0 to complete a historic domestic double.

They put their Europa League final defeat to Atalanta behind them to claim the title at the Olympiastadion.

Kaiserslautern, a 2nd devision Bundesliga side, dominated play early in the encounter, with attempts to exploit Leverkusen’s recent defeat.

Despite their aggressive start, it was Leverkusen who broke the deadlock. Granit Xhaka’s powerful strike from distance in the first half proved decisive.

Leverkusen faced a huge setback when Odilon Kossounou was shown a second yellow and sent off just before halftime.

The red card gave Kaiserslautern hope, but Leverkusen’s defense held their lines until the final whistle.

The victory marked Leverkusen’s first-ever domestic double, and did so remaining unbeaten across all domestic competitions.
