Raheem Sterling appears in court over M3 crash charges
Former England international Raheem Sterling has appeared in court after being charged over a single-vehicle crash involving his £270,000 Lamborghini on the M3 in Hampshire.
The 31-year-old, who is currently without a club, faces charges of dangerous driving, possessing nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen following the incident.

Accoridng SunSport, the crash happened on the southbound M3 near the Minley Interchange on May 28, 2026. Police were called shortly before 9am after motorists reported seeing a black luxury 4×4 swerving across the motorway.
Sterling faces three charges
Sterling was arrested near the interchange close to Farnborough following the incident. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no injuries were reported.
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson previously confirmed the charges against the former Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea winger.
“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen,” the spokesperson said.
Sterling appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15.
If convicted of dangerous driving, Sterling could face a custodial sentence, while the nitrous oxide charge relates to the possession of the substance for wrongful inhalation.
Sterling’s career enters uncertain period
Nitrous oxide was reclassified as a Class C controlled substance in November 2023, making possession for recreational use illegal in England and Wales.
Sterling’s court appearance comes during an uncertain period in his football career. He joined Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers’ academy as a teenager in 2010 before moving to Manchester City in 2015.
The winger enjoyed the most successful spell of his career at City, winning four Premier League titles, five Carabao Cups and an FA Cup.
He later moved to Chelsea in a £50 million transfer in 2022 but struggled to establish himself before being sent on loan to Arsenal. Sterling subsequently joined Feyenoord on loan in February, but that spell ended in the summer.
He remains without a club and has 82 England caps to his name.
